The HIV/AIDS epidemic in African American communities is a continuing public health crisis for the United States. At the end of 2006 there were an estimated 1.1 million people living with HIV infection, of which almost half (46%) were black/African American [1]. While blacks represent approximately 12 percent of the U.S. population, they continue to account for a higher proportion of cases at all stages of HIV/AIDS—from infection with HIV to death with AIDS—compared with members of other races and ethnicities [2, 3]. Two days ago, 50 Cent put his two cents in and interrupted Shyne’s Def Jam media and DJ conference call via phone and UStream. Once Shyne figured out it was OI’ Bugsy, he gets with MTV News to speak on what he thought was going on but to say that 50 Cent is an informant turned witness protection program dude…
That’s a bit much, Federal Government Wouldn’t Have Any Parts of That!!!
“Wow. That’s like an all-time low. I didn’t know he was so desperate. He’s gone from confidential informant, witness-protection program dude, getting order [of protection] on muthaf**kas. Now he’s a stalker. I was in shock. He called up saying he was ‘Jamal from Harlem.’ He didn’t call up saying he’s Curtis Jackson, Hawaii 5-0. He’s a busta. I can’t believe it. I can’t believe he would stoop to that low. Then again, a guy in the witness-protection program, he has no shame.
You know how it is. When you do these things, you always gotta expect a muthaf**ka to call and he might be disgruntled. We took it as another disgruntled person. ‘Cause you know, I don’t know what his voice sounds like. I don’t listen to nothing he do. If we on the yard, and they put his video on, they change the TV in the yard. I don’t jack that dude on no level. I don’t know what his voice sound like. But somebody at Def Jam caught him. He’s been reaching out to one of my generals in the street begging for peace. He caught his voice too. It was after the fact.
I thought it was somebody who was having a bad day, who wanted to know the situation. It wasn’t until after everything was finished, muthaf**kas at Def Jam was like, ‘That was Boo-Boo. That was Hawaii 5-0.’ I was like, ‘No. No.’ Then he put the [video] out, like he was talking reckless. He’s a creep. Any of my comments have been honest comments. These dudes do anything, I don’t give a f**k. It never bothered me. The fact that he’s sitting in New York, selling his Vitamin Water, listening to my Ustream. What the f**k? You’re stalking me. Go take some steroids. Find something to do.”
City Offers Black Man $2.2 Milli After He Served 27 Years For Wrongful Rape Conviction

What would you do if you spent 27 years in jail for a rape you didn’t commit: If you had to fend off grown men, fight every day, eat crap around the clock or miss your own mother’s funeral? These are the questions running through the mind of Michael A. Greene, a man who was just exonerated and released after serving his entire adult life in prison.
Mr. Green, 45, was set free by a state judge two weeks ago after DNA tests on the rape victim’s clothing proved that he could not have been responsible for the crime. His exoneration was the work of a new unit in the Harris County district attorney’s office dedicated to reviewing claims of innocence.
Since he’s been released, he has had to decide whether to take a $2.2 million compensation payment from the State of Texas or file a civil lawsuit in the hope of exposing the truth about the investigation that led to his incarceration. To receive the compensation, he must waive the right to sue.
“What I really need to do is to make them pay for what they done to me,” he says. “Two-point-two million dollars is nothing when it comes to 27 years of my life, which I spent with mental torture and physical abuse.”
The story of Mr. Green’s nightmarish imprisonment — and how a prosecutor, Alicia O’Neill, eventually unearthed biological evidence that led to the real culprits — throws a harsh spotlight on an uncomfortable reality in American justice: the identification of a suspect in a lineup or in an array of photos is not always reliable.
He was walking home on April 18, 1983, the night a white woman was abducted and raped in his neighborhood by four black men in a stolen Camaro. He was one of several young men stopped by the police, but the victim could not identify him.
A week later, however, he was arrested after stealing a car and smashing it up. Detectives showed the victim Mr. Green’s mug shot, along with several other photos, and she said he might be one of her attackers. Later the same day, she picked him out of a lineup of five men.
He heard her scream from behind the mirrored glass when it was his turn to step forward in the lineup. He began cursing and yelling at the police.
“I got so mad, because I recognized it was a setup,” he said. “Then one of the police said: ‘I don’t know what you are mad about. I didn’t rape her. You did.’ ”
Mr. Green spit in the officer’s face, the first of many defiant acts.
A few days later, he turned down an offer from a prosecutor to plead guilty and serve five years for the rape, Mr. Green said. He recalls the trial as a surreal experience. It was the victim’s word against his. On the stand, she pointed him out again. He told the jury that he was innocent, but they did not believe him.
At 18 years old, he was sentenced to 75 years.
Over the years, Mr. Greene endured many attempts on his life, including one by a white supremacist gang leader seeking vengeance on behalf of the victim. Fortunately, his was one of many cases reviewed by the Innocence Project. They helped him get the DNA tests that ultimately led to his freedom.
They have since offered him a job as a paralegal with the Innocence Project of Texas. He says he plans to dedicate his time to “getting more innocent dudes out.”
D*mn. Brothas take note, spitting in the face of a cop can get you 27 years, innocent or not. So what would y’all take the deal for $2.2 milli or go hard for more bread?
Dr. Laura Schlessinger Apologizes For Saying Ni**a 11 Times On Her Show

Infamous radio host and Doctor, Laura Schlessinger apologized to her listeners yesterday after dropping the N-Bomb several times on her show.
During her radio talk show, Schlessinger said Ni**er more than 11 times in an attempt to make a point about the use of the controversial word.
In conversation Tuesday with a black female caller who was complaining about her white husband’s racist friends and their use of the word, Schlessinger said:
Black guys use it all the time. Turn on HBO and listen to a black comic, and all you hear is n****, n*****, n*****. I don’t get it. If anybody without enough melanin says it, it’s a horrible thing. But when black people say it, it’s affectionate. It’s very confusing.
After a break, the caller said she was appalled by Schlessinger’s use of the word.
“Oh, then I guess you don’t watch HBO or listen to any black comedians,” she said. “My dear, the point I am trying to make…we’ve got a black man as president and we’ve got more complaining about racism than ever. I think that’s hilarious.”Schlessinger and the caller then got into an exchange about the use of the word:
CALLER: Is it OK to say that word? Is it ever OK to say that word?
DR. LAURA: It depends how it’s said. Black guys talking to each other seem to think it’s ok.
CALLER: But you’re not black, they’re not black, my husband is white.
DR. LAURA: Oh, I see, so a word is restricted to race. Got it. Can’t do much about that.
CALLER: I can’t believe someone like you is on the radio spewing out the n***** word, and I hope everybody heard it.
DR. LAURA: I didn’t spew out the n***** word!
CALLER: You said “n*****, n*****, n*****” and I hope everybody heard it.
DR. LAURA: Yes they did, and I’ll say it again: n*****, n*****, n***** is what you hear on HBO.
[Crosstalk]
DR. LAURA: Why don’t you let me finish a sentence? Don’t take things out of context. Don’t NAACP me, leave them in context.“If you’re that hypersensitive about color and don’t have a sense of humor, don’t marry outside of your race,” Schlessinger said after hanging up with the caller.
She apologized the next day, opening her show with an apology.
“Yesterday, I did the wrong thing,” she said. “I didn’t intend to hurt people, but I did. And that makes it the wrong thing to have done. I was attempting to make a philosophical point, and I articulated the “n” word all the way out – more than one time. And that was wrong. I’ll say it again – that was wrong.”
Schlessinger said she “was so upset [she] could not finish the show.”
“I pulled myself off the air at the end of the hour,” she said. “I had to finish the hour, because 20 minutes of dead air doesn’t work. I am very sorry. And it just won’t happen again.”
Although Schlessinger may have had a point in her discussion with the Black female caller, she has to understand that there’s a difference between Ni**a and Ni**ER with the ER. But seriously, we shouldn’t be having this debate anymore. The real question is, why do they want permission to say it so bad?

“They’re earbuds, but they wrap around the ear,” said legendary producer Dr. Dre, who shares one of two VIBE Juice issue covers with Eminem. “Each bud has two drivers so it sounds a little louder. You can hear the 808 in these. I’ve been wearing the prototype every day to workout.” The rollout for the headwear is already in place. LeBron James tweeted last week that he’d shot an ad for the new venture. “Just wrapped my commercial shoot for my new product, “Power Beats” by Dre. Me, Dr.Dre and Affion Crockett,” LeBron tweeted. “Coming to a store near u.”
According to Dr. Dre, headphones are just the beginning for his audio brand. “[Beat-making software is] something I want to get into and the headphones were a good start,” says Dre, who won VIBE’s Greatest Hip-Hop Producer Tournament earlier this year. “I want to get into putting out my own drum sounds and maybe a beat machine. Fantasia Meets With Her Married Boo Following Suicide Attempt

Fantasia met with her married lover Antwaun Cook less than 24 hours after being released from the Charlotte, NC hospital that treated her for an overdose earlier this week.
According to RadarOnline reports:
The American Idol winner — who allegedly attempted to commit suicide when married Cook told her their relationship was over — met up with him at a secluded park near her lavish waterfront mansion.
And the VH1 cameras were rolling on the reunion for Fantasia’s new reality show Fantasia for Real.
Is it bad that we’re now really excited for the new season of “Fantasia For Real”??? Just sayin’!
We weren’t sure it was the best idea for Fanny to drop her album so quickly after her overdose, but now we’re thinking her label might have the right idea. The world hasn’t been this interested in Fantasia since, well, ever really.

T.O. The “Old Head” Has His First Day At Cincinnati Bengals Practice
Let the foolishness begin:
A few thousand fans showed up for Owens’ first practice with the Cincinnati Bengals, who signed him to a one-year deal on Thursday evening, then got a preliminary glimpse of what the 36-year-old receiver has left. “He hasn’t slowed down,” quarterback Carson Palmer said. “He’s a guy that’s kind of ageless and he’s still got a lot left in the tank.”
Owens enjoyed the reception — fans cheering every catch and screaming his name to lure him over for autographs when the two-hour workout ended.
“I think this team is special,” Owens said. “I really feel that there is something around the corner for this team. With me being here, (it) has really created a buzz. I think the guys feel the energy.” Owens missed an overnight flight that would have brought him to town earlier in the day, allowing for a proper introduction. Instead, he caught a later flight, rolled in less than an hour before an evening practice and suited up without talking to the media.
He and buddy Chad Ochocinco were the last two to jog onto the field, drawing loud applause. Owens occasionally waved to the fans in appreciation, but played it low-key throughout the two-hour workout.
So began the TO-and-Ocho era.
“It’s a circus,” Palmer said. “Him and Chad, them being them. It’s funny. I was laughing.”
